Favor Holders Ideas
Favors are the small gifts given to guests at parties. Although the wedding favors are the most popular, people offer small souvenirs for other parties, too: Christmas and New Years’, baby showers, graduation, birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations or even tea parties, hence the huge diversity of favor holders available.
The tradition of giving favors, especially to a wedding, is very old, it goes back in the times when sugar was an expensive delicacy. Favors consisted of some trinket boxes made of porcelain or crystal that contained sugar or confectionery, symbolizing wealth and royalty. Later, as sugar became largely available, the tradition became more spread. In time, bombonieres were replaced with almonds and later with sugar coated almonds, which are still popular today. There were 5 almonds to symbolize good wishes: Happiness, Health, Wealth, Fertility and Long Life. Today, there’s a huge range of options for favors, from the traditional almond, chocolates, cookies and all kinds of treats to candles, photo frames and place card holders.
As everybody wants their favors to be unique and long remembered, there’s a high request for unique favor holders. The market offers all imaginable kinds of favor holders, but those who want them to be truly unique (and save quite a nice amount of money), think of making their own favor holders. Here are some ideas to start from, if you are thinking to create your own special favor holders:
- Establish what will be your party favors: things you can eat or mementos of the event. Here’s an idea: if you are thinking of chocolate, there are a lot of possibilities to create something really beautiful, surprising and unique. You can buy some molds and some inexpensive chocolates that you can melt and add color, and you can create some really cool stuff. Or you can choose cookies and shape them diversely with the help of a gingerbread people cookie cutter.
- Make a research (on the internet, at the nearest craft store) and brainstorming (with your partner, relatives etc) to find that special idea to create a theme (if you don’t already have one).
- Put your creativity to work: design and create several alternative models and give it a rest for a couple of days. Only then will you be able to choose the best option. If you still are not fully satisfied with the result, you can resort to the services of a specialized firm – there are companies that will offer design services only, if you choose so.
Elegant, quick, easy and inexpensive solutions:
· Decorative bags: You can make traditional organza bags or some cone-shaped cellophane bags to give your favors a more modern look and fill them with Jordan almonds.
· Favor boxes: fill them with goodies, like homemade cookies.
· Candy tins: fill them with almonds, chocolates or/and mints. Add a thank you tag, ribbon or sticker with the date.
· Personalized CDs: some songs to remind guests of your party. Or you may even add fragments of recorded party moments.
- Make a list of materials you need, then find a supplier with a good price.
- Get started, time flies! And of course ask for all the help you can get from friends and family.
Remember: plan ahead, start early and give it enough time, as you might find this task rather time consuming.
