Winter Wedding Theme

A winter wedding theme is perfect for anyone who loves the winter season or who is having a wedding in the winter.  When planning any themed wedding though, a bride and groom should be careful to not make the theme overshadow the actual wedding.  A themed wedding can get very cheesy very quickly.  Here are some tips to keep the cheese factor out of a winter wedding theme:

Do not overdo any one thing. 
It is the small, tasteful touches that people will notice more than loud embellishments.  Instead of putting snowflakes on the wedding dress, the cake, each table, the place cards, the programs, and the alter, try putting them on just one or two of these things.

Think about how guests should feel. 
What is it about winter that makes it a special season?  If it is the wonderment of the snowy outdoors, choose blue and green lights to play up the chilly feel of the outdoors.  However, if it is the warmth and togetherness of an indoor gathering that makes winter special, use warm lighting to create a cozy feel.

Dress appropriately. 
If the wedding is in a cold winter location, it will be easy to remember a coat.  If the wedding is in a warm location with a winter theme, remember to have everyone dress the part.  Guests do not have to dress in winter wear, but the bride and the bridal party should look like they stepped out of a winter wonderland.  Any bridal consultant will be able to help the bride pick out a winter wedding dress.  A cape, shrug, or jacket over the bridal gown can look spectacular.  Navy, black, or red would be beautiful options for the bridal party.  The groom may even choose a tux in a heavier fabric if he feels the need.
